Beautiful monasteries can seem to appear out of nowhere when one is visiting the natural wonderland that is Messenia. Their architecture and location are closely linked with historical events and miracles that have taken place on various occasions. Some are abandoned, some are in use, but all are worth a visit. Mystras, the “wonder of Morea” with its churches and monasteries, is also within driving distance.
